Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with an examination of this quintessential Irish film, The Quiet Man. Shot in magnificent Technicolor, it will bring 1920s Ireland back to life for us as we view it through the eyes of its returned son, Sean Thornton. John Wayne portrays Thornton in what was one of his best leading man roles ever. Learn how Director John Ford made this love letter to his Irish roots and learn some of the behind-the-scenes stories of its stars and the film making process. With the beautiful Maureen O’Hara, impish Barry Fitzgerald, tough as nails Victor McLaglen , as well as a plethora of Ireland’s own film and stage stars, this is the Irish film and story you won’t want to miss. Film highlights will be included with the presentation.

ABOUT THE LECTURER
Lawrence (Larry) Wolff began his appreciation of film at a young age and it has blossomed over time. His original interests concerned film comedians, gangsters and ghouls, but his love of film now includes classics of all genres. He presents a historical perspective on such different subjects as silent film icons, comedians, dramatic actors, and films from the 1920’s through the 1970’s. He has been The Grand Sheik (President)of the Long Island chapter of the Sons of the Desert (the Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society) for over ten years and is a contributor to the New York and national Abbott and Costello Fan Clubs.
