Thomas Petriano

These four lectures will examine the much-neglected role of women in the Bible as it is being brought to light by theologians today, especially those who are women.  Looking at biblical texts through a feminist lens, we will discuss important women of the Old Testament such as Eve, Sarah, Hagar Tamar, Miriam, Huldah, Ruth, and Esther, as well as women who surrounded Jesus:  his mother, Mary, Mary Magdalene, the Canaanite woman, the women at the cross and the women who visited the tomb of Jesus. Some of the important women of the early Christian church, such as Justa, Priscilla, Thecla, Lydia, and Phoebe will also be discussed.

Thursdays, June 5 and June 12 IN-PERSON/June 19 and June 26 via ZOOM                Fee:  $125

NOTE:  The professor’s schedule is such that he has only these dates available for the summer; therefore, because the museum is closed from June 16 – June 27, he must do his last two classes via Zoom.  For those classes, a Zoom link will be sent to your email the day before each class and the day of each class, so watch for it.  Call us at 516-480-5733 or email kay.sato14@gmail.com if you’re having trouble getting onto the Zoom platform – we can try to help, but do remember, if you somehow miss the Zoom class, we always send a recording out that same day.
