Set in the New York countryside in 1906, this bittersweet 1982 classic comedy from writer and director Woody Allen features music by Medelssohn and Schubert, images by master cinematographer Gordon Willis, and a great performance by José Ferrer surrounded by Mia Farrow, Mary Steenburgen, Julie Hagerty, Tony Roberts, and Allen himself in a supporting role. With echoes of Shakespeare, Chekhov, and Bergman, it's the story of a complex summer weekend in which relationships interchange in unpredictable ways. Janet Maslin of the New York Times called it "one of Mr. Allen's sunnier efforts." A sunny discussion will follow the film.
