Ned Beatty and Liev Shreiber give two of the best cinema performances playing Murph and Paul, two very different workers for the Parks Department of a small Connecticut town. On the verge of retirement, Murph is calm, and, on the surface, fairly contented when he is paired with an ex-convict who is rash, hotblooded, and desperate to build a new life for himself. As the seasons change, Tom Gilroy's award-winning 1999 feature takes on an almost Zen sense of poetic revelation, reconciliation, and love between two guys who happen to work together. The film also features Campbell Scott, Peri Gilpin, Ian Hart, Catherine Kellner, and Hallee Hirsh.
