D. A. Pennebaker's 1967 chronicle of Bob Dylan's 1965 tour of England is regarded as one of the best of all documentaries. Shot in true cinema verite style with a handheld 16mm camera, edited without narration, it's a fly-on-the-wall glimpse into a crucial time in Dylan's career, and it includes stunning footage of Dylan performing solo. Newsweek called it a film "about fame and how it menaces art, about the press and how it categorizes, bowdlerizes, sterilizes, universalizes or conventionalizes an original like Dylan into something it can dimly understand." Also appearing (some briefly) are Dylan's manager Albert Grossman, Joan Baez, Donovan, Marianne Faithful, Allen Ginsberg, John Mayall, and Alan Price of The Animals. The film begins with Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues," one of the first ever music videos. A lively discussion will follow the film. And no—we haven't mis-punctuated the title!
