This three-lecture series explores the first fifteen centuries of Christian history—from the small communities of believers in the Roman Empire to the vast and complex world of medieval Christendom. We will trace how Christianity moved from persecution to imperial acceptance, how monasticism and theology shaped Christian culture, and how events such as the Great Schism, the Crusades, and the rise of universities transformed the church. Along the way, we will encounter influential figures such as Augustine, Benedict, Hildagard, Catherine of Siena, Francis of Assisi, and Thomas Aquinas while examining how Christian faith shaped—and was shaped by—the societies in which it lived.
