This first in our trilogy of tributes to the bike on film is one of the best films by Belgian filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. Set in their favorite cinema neighborhood, the Seraing district of Liège in Belgium, this 2011 classic focuses on Cyril, a troubled 12-year-old in a children’s home, his absentee father, the stranger who becomes his foster mother, a local gang leader, and, of course, Cyril’s beloved bike. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe, and it won the cherished Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. A lively discussion will follow the screening.
IN FRENCH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.
