An innovative, independent, and a dedicated workhorse, Buster Keaton is one of the three giants of silent comedy (along with Charles Chaplin and Harold Lloyd). Even today, he remains an icon in the world of comedy. In this presentation you will learn about some history of his beginnings, including his relationship with Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, how he developed his “Stone Face” look, and many of the triumphs and tragedies that led to his fall after the advent of sound. However, it was not his voice that wrecked his sound career but rather his personal life coupled with drinking and a very bad business decision. Unlike his friends and contemporaries, Lloyd and Chaplin who had retired from the screen years earlier, Buster continued to work in film, commercials and television until his death. Some of Buster’s best silent work will be screened with this lecture, including some clips of his gags and films that are still amazing to this day. An autograph, memorabilia, and book display will be included with this presentation.
