Filmed over 100 years ago in 1923, this Hal Roach silent masterpiece is still astonishing to watch as Lloyd’s character climbs increasingly higher up the exterior of a Los Angeles office building. This comedy-adventure is based on what seemed like a great way for The Boy to earn some cash while impressing his boss and his girl: hire his friend Bill to generate publicity for the DeVore Department store by climbing up the side of the building. Alas, the plan goes awry when Lloyd has to substitute for Bill until the police are off Bill’s tail. Lloyd’s untimely hanging from the hand of a giant clock is one of the most iconic images in cinema history. A lively discussion will follow the screening.
