This seldom-seen, highly unusual Swiss masterpiece from 2008 features Isabelle Huppert and Olivier Gourmet as the heads of a family that lives adjacent to a long-abandoned, uncompleted highway, a space that they have always known as their private front yard on which the only traffic is the family and occasional friends from school. When the highway is suddenly completed, their world is fractured by the motion and the noise of high-density traffic, and we see how that trauma of total dislocation affects each member of the household. The film was directed and co-written by award-winning French filmmaker Ursula Meier. A lively discussion will follow the screening.
IN FRENCH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.
