In the treasure house of Gnostic texts that were recovered from the cave in Nag Hammadi, we find female voices that present paradoxical utterances, such as Thunder, Perfect Mind saying: “For I am the first and the last. I am the honored one and the scorned one. I am the whore and the holy one.” We find similar utterances in other esoteric texts of the world that are about the transformation of consciousness. These words are designed to confound the mind that looks for certainty and definite truths. In this class, we will read a few such texts to understand their import and relevance in today’s world.
