600. Great Writers on Film: William Faulkner's Intruder in the Dust

Director Clarence Brown's smart, concise, loyal adaptation of Faulkner's 1948 crime novel was shot on location in Faulkner's hometown of Oxford, Mississippi, and included some of its longtime residents. About the film, Faulkner—who won the Nobel Prize that same year—said: "I'm not much of a moviegoer, but I did see that one. I thought it was a fine job." The film earned Juano Hernández a Golden Globe nomination for playing Lucas Beauchamp, a poor farmer accused of murdering a white lumberman.
