America has been number one in the world for a long time…predominant in the global political and economic landscape. But major changes are happening – new powers, new technologies, new forces. What are they? Is a different world environment replacing the contours of the 20th century? In Europe, the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, the balance of power is shifting. Regions and cultures considered less important are now very significant. How will America respond to these challenges? Will there be more confrontations or more cooperation? Can America maintain its position? Will this affect allies like the European Union, Israel, Japan, South Korea and others? Will adversaries like China, Russia, Iran, etc, change? How are leaders like Xi Jing Ping, Putin, the Ayatollahs coping? Are our strengths and our leadership adequate? This course will examine these and other issues in the context of current world developments.
