Co-written by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder and directed by Mel Brooks, this film is as funny and fresh today as it was when we practically rolled in the aisles laughing at it in 1974! A PowerPoint presentation by Professor Wolff will take you from the early development of the film to its completion. Along the way, you will discover the unconventional way the film was cast, how Mel and Gene wrote the story and screenplay, why it was filmed in black and white, and which scene almost caused a huge fight between the authors. The presentation will also include many more behind the scenes stories and crackups that occurred during the filming of this, the favorite film of Gene Wilder, and the one which Mel considers it his finest work. After the presentation, the professor will screen selected film highlights. Additionally, attendees will also be able to listen to the film’s soundtrack as they view memorabilia, a book, and an autograph display before the program.
